Labor positioning & movement: Helping with position changes, walking, lunges, squats, side-lying positions, hands-and-knees, birth-ball positions, and movements that encourage comfort and labor progress.
Emotional support & reassurance: Providing a calm, encouraging presence, helping manage fear or overwhelm, offering reassurance during difficult moments, and helping maintain a peaceful birth environment.
Continuous labor support: Providing steady physical, emotional, and informational support throughout labor and birth, from early labor through delivery.
Partner support: Helping partners know how to participate, demonstrating comfort techniques, suggesting ways they can provide support, and stepping in when they need food, rest, or a break.
Birth preferences & advocacy support: Helping parents communicate their preferences, understand their options, ask questions, and feel confident participating in decisions with their medical team.
Labor education & information: Explaining common stages of labor, procedures, interventions, terminology, and what may be happening throughout the birth while referring medical questions to the appropriate provider.
Birth environment: Helping create a comfortable environment with lighting, music, aromatherapy when permitted, temperature adjustments, hydration, positioning tools, and other personal comfort preferences.
Cesarean & unexpected-birth support: Providing emotional and practical support when birth plans change, including inductions, assisted births, unplanned C-sections, or other unexpected circumstances.
Immediate postpartum support: Staying after birth to support initial bonding, skin-to-skin, first feeding, basic breastfeeding assistance, partner involvement, and settling the family in before leaving.
Breastfeeding, pumping & bottle support: Positioning and basic latch support, pumping routines, bottle preparation, paced feeding, formula/combination-feeding support, milk storage education, and washing/sanitizing feeding supplies.
Overnight support: Responding to baby, diaper changes, feeding or bringing baby to the nursing parent, burping, soothing and resettling, washing bottles/pump parts, and maximizing parents’ uninterrupted sleep.
Postpartum recovery: Creating comfortable recovery spaces, keeping water/snacks/recovery supplies nearby, supporting rest and gentle recovery, and helping parents recognize when concerns should be brought to their medical provider.
Meals & hydration: Preparing simple nourishing meals and snacks, meal prep, keeping water filled, organizing meal-train food, and grocery/meal pickup when included.

Parent education & confidence: Teaching newborn cues, feeding and soothing techniques, safe-sleep practices, normal newborn behavior, diaper/output expectations, and practical baby-care skills so parents feel increasingly confident on their own.
Sibling & partner support: Helping older children adjust, providing practical sibling care when agreed upon, teaching partners newborn-care skills, and helping families create realistic routines and divide responsibilities.
Organization, resources & referrals: Setting up diaper/feeding/pumping stations, organizing baby and postpartum supplies, helping coordinate visitors or appointments, and connecting families with trusted lactation consultants, pelvic-floor therapists, mental-health providers, massage therapists, and other postpartum professionals.
Birth preferences & planning: Talking through your ideal birth experience, priorities, comfort preferences, and what matters most to you during labor and delivery.
Understanding your options: Reviewing common choices surrounding induction, pain management, monitoring, movement, pushing, newborn procedures, and other routine birth decisions.
Preparing for the unexpected: Discussing possible changes in your birth plan, including induction, assisted delivery, or Cesarean birth, so you feel prepared for different scenarios.
